Shine For Shai

Shai is 8 years old and was diagnosed with leukemia on December 30th, 2022 while visiting his grandmother with his sister and Mom for Christmas out of province in Lloydminster, Alberta from Nanaimo, British Columbia. It started with a nose bleed that wouldn’t stop and Shai has been suffering from chronic bruising, he has also been tired and has had severe headaches. When his Mom couldn’t get his nose bleed to stop she took him to the emergency and then he was transported to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton immediately, where he is now in the Oncology ward. Shai has had a number of Blood and platelet infusions so far and surgery is being talked about to help treat the cancer. Shai is Snuneymuxw First Nations, and luckily his band will be putting his mother Michelle up in a hotel nearby, but there is no telling how long Shai will be in the hospital for. At the moment he cannot travel, Shai is not well enough to travel to BC’s Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, closer to home.

We are not sure what type of Leukemia it is at this moment, and we will update the moment that we find out.

Shai’s mother has Crohn’s so she needs regular infusions at a hospital, she is on disability and being away from home will be a big financial stress on their family. We are hoping to gather donations to take this much unneeded burden away from Michelle during this time.

Shai is a warrior and fighter and one of the funniest kids I know. He is super caring and very sweet. He is my neighbour and my family and loves to come over all the time. I was able to facetime with them last night and Shai seems in good spirits. Let’s all band together and help become Shai’s army to fight this cancer!
