When my daughter Anoushka was born with Down syndrome, the world as I knew it changed forever. Doctors’ words were heavy, and the internet painted a grim picture, but Anoushka herself was light... pure, radiant light. She is joy. She is resilience. She is love. She is magic.
But my path into motherhood was not without pain. After her birth, I endured a year and a half of postpartum psychosis and postpartum anxiety disorder. It was the darkest season of my life, one where I fought to hold on, for myself, for my child and for my marriage.
And yet, out of those depths came growth beyond what I thought possible. Out of brokenness came healing. Out of despair came purpose.
I wrote Anoushka’s Extraordinary Heroes to honor the journey and to share the hope, love, and resilience Anoushka inspired in me. And from that book, I founded Anoushka’s Helping Hand Foundation — a nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals with Down syndrome, celebrating their beauty and strength, and building a more inclusive community.
Our Mission
Anoushka’s Helping Hand Foundation is about turning challenges into triumphs. We create spaces of celebration, awareness, and opportunity through:
• Our first initiative, the Warrior Mom Brunch honored mothers of children with special needs by giving them the recognition they so often go without. At this highly successful event, we presented our newly created Resilience Award, honoring a dedicated Warrior Mom whose strength and perseverance embody the spirit of our mission.
• Our second initiative, Fairfield Celebrates Down Syndrome, launches this October as the town's first-ever celebration of Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
Both of these events will be annual traditions, ensuring that families have ongoing spaces of recognition, joy, and inclusion.
Looking to the Future — In 2026, we will launch our Night to Soar Gala, a fundraising event that will support scholarships, advocacy, and training opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome.
• Scholarships & Opportunities — opening doors for individuals with Down syndrome to pursue education, training, and advocacy. Our vision is to provide scholarships each spring to support their futures.

But until then, we rely on the generosity of friends, family, and kind strangers — people like you who believe that every child deserves to be celebrated, supported, and empowered.
Your donation is more than dollars — it is hope, inclusion, and love in action. With your help, Fairfield will celebrate Down syndrome for the very first time. With your help, Anoushka’s light will shine even brighter, illuminating a future where every child is seen, celebrated, and supported.
Please give today. Together, we can turn resilience into celebration, and celebration into lasting change.
