Shiloh's Top Surgery Fund
Donation protected
Hey y'all! For Shy's 22nd birthday I have decided to help him , along with you, take the next step towards securing life saving medical care. If you are lucky enough to know Shiloh, you know just how much he deserves our community's support, love, and financial assistance.
Shiloh King is a non-binary trans-masc scenic artist living and working in rural Georgia. Shiloh is not only an incredible artist, but a passionate activist in the LGBTQIA community. He has never been one to stand in the spot light, let alone ask for help of this caliber, rather he has spent his time, money, and energies bringing much needed attention to underserved and forgotten people in our community.
Over the past year he has been undergoing hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and is now over 8 months on testosterone. I have had the immense pleasure of observing just how much this life saving medical care has impacted his quality of life. After jumping through what seemed like a million loops he finally legally changed his name and acquired new legal documentation. Shiloh has paid out of pocket for all of this; from doctor's appointments, prescriptions, medical supplies, court fees, birth certificates, and a new driver's license. HRT and name changes are only the tip of the iceberg for many transgender individuals. The next step for Shy is top surgery.
Shiloh began binding at 15 and unfortunately due to unsafe binding practices has developed an intense chronic pain whenever his chest is compressed for any amount of time, properly or otherwise. Because he is no longer able to bind he is faced with debilitating dysphoria daily. Not only is he faced with dysphoria but socially, and especially in rural southern Georgia, it is unsafe to be visibly trans.
As if these reasons were not enough to validate the need for this surgery, Shiloh is also well over a year into true recovery from a life altering eating disorder. The inability to bind leaves Shy more vulnerable to relapse.
On a more personal note, Shy is wholeheartedly one of the most deserving people I have ever known. Since I met him in 2014 he has always been a natural giver. He is constantly taking care of the people around him. From his friends to the stranger on the side of the street it comes naturally to him to do whatever is in his power to make other's lives better. He is an outspoken voice for our community in the real world and online. Not a day goes by where he isn't putting in tangible effort into bettering the lives of queer people, with his main focus being on the life or death issues BIPOC individuals face around our nation and throughout the world. His activism is not performative, self righteous, or disingenuous. Rather he is a role model for us all in the art of "walking the walk".
Any funds given to him will all be going towards the cost of consultation, travel expenses (food, gas, hotel), surgery, medications, follow-ups, and aftercare. All funds will be directly deposited into Shy's savings account. Receipts and documentation will be provided as well and the information will be provided here on Gofundme. Anything that may possibly be left over will be donated to other transgender individuals seeking medical assistance.
Shiloh is extremely grateful for any and all support, from a donation to sharing this fund on social media- every bit of effort gets him a little bit closer to living the life he has been dreaming of. Thank you all for taking the time to be a small part of his journey!
