Shikorina's Moving Costs

I opened Shikorina 3 years ago with the hope of creating a community-oriented and zero-waste bakeshop. With the help of so many of you, we did it!

While many people have asked why Shikorina is moving, I’ve usually skirted around the question as I’m a private person and didn’t want to inundate the community with my personal problems. However, Shikorina can really use your help and I feel it’s best to share a small bit about why.

Shortly after our grand opening in 2021, I had to obtain a protection order against my former partner and co owner of the building which kicked off a long uphill battle. Navigating several legal disputes and constant disturbances has been a huge financial, time, and emotional burden for the past few years.

Now that our building is selling, it’s come time to find a new space. We had been looking for a while and it was a huge relief when I found the space at Broadway and Pike. I put everything I have into acquiring the space and I’m so excited for this fresh start with a longer lease.

With plans to reopen at the end of this month, I’m working hard to renovate the space and plan our move. However, with the costs of purchasing the former occupying business and my resources stretched thin between double rent and business costs, we can use help reaching the finish line.

We’re hoping to raise $19,000 which will cover a month of rent, electrical renovations, staff training, and moving our equipment. Once we’re open, we’ll have a special thank you for everyone who donates.

While the new space offers us more stability and opportunities, we’re really going to miss being in the Central District; it’s been a difficult goodbye and we hope to keep strong ties in the neighborhood. I hope to see your familiar faces at our new shop.
