Face Shields and Intubation Units For L.A. Docs
Hello, my name is Chris Webster and I run Calico Design Manufacturing in L.A. To deal with the current pandemic, I've switched everything over to making intubation shields and face shields for doctors. We're capable of producing around 1000 shields, or 20 intubation units a day, but right now we are severely lacking the funds to run at that capacity from not having the money to buy certain materials in bulk, and now I am currently out of funds.
Each face shield is actually two things--a reusable, sterilizable shield, plus a kit of straps and foam padding that can be replaced. I've worked hard to get costs to 1.25+1.25 each in materials for 2.50 total material cost per unit.
The intubation chambers are right about 50 dollars each for materials when made one by one, but can be lowered when material is ordered in bulk and intelligently laid out on multiple sheets for about 40 each or lower. We've worked with local doctors to nail down a great design and all we have to do is get them funded and made.
All designs can also be found on my website with build instructions for other people to make as well, they are open source if you are capable of also producing these for your local community: https://www.heycalico.com/medical-products . Thank you for all the help you can offer!!!
