Shielding Stockport

Donation protected

After printing over 1000 shields d over 500 ear  savers it is with a heavy heart I have to sadly closed this fundraiser as the government has chosen to release a policy which prevents makers from doing this without getting certified or officially cleared costing potentially thousands of pounds and months of delays.  To continue without this opens us up to prosecution and being sued.  So sorry everybody.  Could not hate this government more right now.  Corporate greed and a desperate need to avoid looking like they are relying on us.  Thank you all for your support and sorry out "leaders" have made a bad situation worse.

Donations are now closed.  All monies recieved (and then some!) were used up to source materials.  One of the printers used will be donated to a great local charity - Cheadle Coderdojo - so the benefit of the donations lives on in the community.

End.

DONTATION GUIDANCE : Gofundme sets a default "tip" as a percentage on top of your donation to help cover their costs when you donate.  You can set this to "other" and type in any value you like (or £0 if you'd prefer not to tip them).  Wanted to mention this so you don't wonder why the amount to pay is higher / the donation is lower!  Note also there can be a delay of 5 to 10 days for funds to get through to me. over 330 face shields made and new people joining me to print this is getting exciting now!

As a community we have one opportunity to make a difference which will save lives of front line staff (NHS and Charity workers) and those they care for who are amongst the most vulnerable (and potentially forgotten) in this national and local emergency that is Covid-19.

That opportunity is right now and i need your help to make sure we grab it with both hands.

The detail.

Like others I'm printing face shields to a couple of designs (one quick and relatively simple and one more complex).

This is an effort to support doctors nurses and charities (those supporting the most vulnerable across Stockport and hopefully beyond and into Manchester) who are suffering massively both from a lack of PPE which is putting them at risk mentally and physically.  I've heard varying reports on the availability of face shields, but it seems that the majority of supply will arrive in months not days.

I'm currently using my own printer and supplies, paying for those myself and liaising with my local medical practise to ensure things get done in a way which helps not hinders.  Obviously there is a limit to how much time we have before we hit the peak and my resources will be gone long before then.  Luckily your amazing donations so far have seen the resources grow and more people join me for the journey offering skills, printers and a treasure trove of bits needed to keep this going.

I've bought the 2 additional printers (good timing as number 1 died) and we are now printing a modified version of the Prusa design (not shown in my main photo) which is much better for clinical settings and allows printing multiple units together. Initially around 4 hours each we've got that down to 2 hours and with possibility to get that down to 1hr or less with some cleverness.

Money raised is being used to source materials (bags, elastic, printing filament, labels, ink, pvc sheets) which are being shared with those printing for the effort.  I am not seeking to make any money on this and am keeping a track of all costs for transparency.  The facebook page (referenced above) is keeping people updated on the amazing efforts as the project snowballs (which it seems to be doing!)

I'm talking to other local organisations and people who have resources (printers) locked away unused in lockdown to see how they can help them liberate and unite those with the employees stuck at home.  The plan (I'm an engineer and very hyperfocused on streamlining!) is to share knowledge gained so other local authorities can cut and paste to boost national production, in a safe and dependable way to make a difference.

I am also looking to local and national retailers for help finding things (ie waist button elastic for the straps, a4 transparency sheets etc and any donations they can make).

I am a process engineer by trade (technical sales manager for the north and scotland for a pump company for food and beverage and pharma factories), father of 2 kids with additional needs and strong believer in getting things done to protect their risking their lives to save us and look after the most needy.

All monies gratefully recieved and responsibly used.  As mentioned Iam not seeking to make profit on this and any monies unused once we come out of this will be donated to local charities for the vulnerable (disabled and homeless).

NOTE - I AM WORKING WITH THE NHS TO ORGANISE DISTRIBUTION TO THE MOST URGENT CASES FIRST (doctors, nurses, health visitors, GP's, carers, pharmacies, charities etc).  Sadly i do not have time to field all the calls individually but if you contact Mastercall, they will be able to get your details and assist.

Thanks for reading and donating - your kindness is helping stop the spread and protect those on the frontlines.
