Shield Charlotte - 3D Printed Face Shields

With the number of COVID-19 cases on the rise each day, the supply level of PPE (personal protective equipment) is dwindling.

Our loved ones are out there fighting to save lives every single day...WITHOUT MUCH NEEDED PROTECTION.

Our team has decided to appropriate our time and resources to manufacture face shields that can help protect healthcare workers from COVID-19 droplet transmission.

^^ As you can see, we all have a personal connection to this project and a passion for protecting our local healthcare workers who happen to be ourselves, our family, and our friends.

Healthcare workers are currently being allocated 1 surgical mask per shift and 1 N95 for indefinite reuse (unless visibly soiled). Face shields help to keep masks clean for safer reuse.

In the past few days, our team has produced over 200 face shields and donated them to local Charlotte hospitals. We are donating to ALL Charlotte area healthcare systems. Our initial focus is to protect Emergency Departments, Intensive Care Units, and COVID-19 Cohorting units. Our relationship with these facilities is purely on a community benefit level. We are not accepting ANY form of payment or reimbursement for shields.
All shields are only provided on a donation basis. As our capabilities expand, we will look at providing shields to local Urgent Cares and Skilled Nursing Facilities. Once our local community is well protected, we will assess the potential to provide face shields to other places in need prioritizing by level of need.

THEY ARE NOT FOR SALE

For every $1 you donate, you shield approximately 1 person.

There are other groups creating these shields as well, which is fantastic! However, some are using a different design by Prusa, which takes approximately 4 hours to print 1 headband. The design we are using can print 2 in just under an hour!

Here is how you can help. Our personal resources have been exhausted and we are asking for donations to supply our team with the materials and equipment needed to take this project to the next level.

Our goal is to provide a shield to as many healthcare workers as we can, as fast as possible.

How your donation dollars will be spent:

We are currently a VERY small operation and we want to go BIG.
Our production capability is currently around 60 3D printed headbands per day using the equipment we already have. Our goal is to increase this to around 500 per day or more. To do this, we need funds to purchase more of the following:

-3D Printers: each printer costs approx. $275 and can produce 2 headbands per hour
-Filament Spools: this is the raw material 3D printers use, each spool costs approx. $35 and makes approx. 60 headbands
-Clear Plastic Sheets: an order of 1000 sheets costs $422

Once we are able to obtain these resources, more of the much needed shields will be produced and donated.

-Donate clear plastic PETG (5mm thick)
-Donate masks to hospitals

Withdrawal Plan:
When we withdraw funds, they will be appropriated to the purchase of raw materials and equipment. Which will be turned into a finished product that will be donated directly to healthcare workers in our community.
