(Kumo smiling for the camera On his first few hikes)

Hello! My name is Kumo, a 7-month old cream Shiba. I had recently got into an accident while my hu-dad was driving me to a park for a hike. Long story short, I was a little too adventurous and pushed the window down in a moving vehicle. While, my hu-dad  was driving, I got too excited to explore the nature and jumped out of the moving SUV. My 2.5 year old shiba brother, Pika, was also at the car during this time. He saw that I jumped from the car and broke my front left arm with blood gushing out, but luckily I survived...

My pawrents rushed to call any local Urgent Care to see me. After 3 hours, I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with broken bones on my front left arm with compact and open fractures. My open fracture tore and punctured my flesh, exposing my bone. We went to urgent care on 2/18 and surgery today, 2/19. I am hoping for a road to fast recovery.

I am kindly asking for some help with my current vet bill that my pawrents are trying to fund. They didn’t think I needed insurance right away, so will need to pay everything out of pocket. Anything helps, please and thank you! I will be forever grateful to the community.

My pawrents promise to donate any extra to other pets in need. My pawrents will keep everyone posted on my surgery and my road to recovery. THANK YOU A MILLION! <3

Love,
Kumo (and Pika - my big shiba brother)

Initially our vet gave us an estimate of about $3K, but after going to urgent care, with surgery, sedation, pain meds and xrays etc, we’re now looking at upwards of $12,000!
We’re devastated about the cost, but needed to save Kumo. This has been way too traumatic for the past two days.

Thanks to everypawty for all of your advice, suggestions, warm wishes and concern for Kumo.

UPDATES below:

[2/18] - #1: We didn’t get pet insurance for Kumo since he was barely 7 month old. So, we were hoping there's payment plan available since we won't be able to pay in full. We should be able to work it out a 3 - 4month plan.

[2/18] - #2: Hey All, we've decided to go with Sage Vet Urgent Care Hospital in Campbell since it's the closest one near us for immediate care/ surgery. They will do the surgery tomorrow and will be staying over at the vet. Kumo has two fractures - (1) open fracture with bone protruding out and a second compact fracture inside his front leg.
Fingers-crossed everything goes well. Thank you so much to the community for all of the great recommendations and DMs.

[2/18] - #3: Doctor called and mentioned that Kumo is doing well and finally eating since 24 hours ago (dinner on 2/17). We are still waiting for surgery tomorrow morning. Hope it goes well and that the little trooper stays strong.

(Vet Bill estimate as of 2/18/2020)

[2/19] - #4: We received a call this morning from Dr. Hsueh today. Kumo is undergoing surgery from 10:30 - 12:30pm She detailed that Kumo will be getting a 6-7 inch incision on his left arm, from elbow joint to his paws. The vet will be implementing a plate to hold his bone joint in place.
On a good note, Kumo is eating like a CHAMP, finishing his food and then some! :) We're awaiting to pick him up (hopefully) tomorrow afternoon/ evening as Dr. Hsueh is advising another stay over at the urgent care tonight so the team can monitor him. We'll keep you all posted on additional updates here. Thank you!

[2/20] - #5: We picked little Kumo up from the hospital this afternoon and received our final bill incurred over 3 days...totaling ~$8300.
We were so ecstatic to see Kumo and he hobbled over to greet us, wagging his tail like crazy. We are so heart-broken and emotional seeing his incision, but so glad he is onto his recovery stage. He is such a strong and energetic trooper! I will keep posting updates, so the community can see Kumo heal and get back on all FOUR of his paws. Feel free to follow:

[2/21] #6: Kumo has been sleeping lot with minimal movement after arriving home for 30 minutes. We’ve received our final vet bills over the course of 3 days, approximate rounded breakdown below, totaling $8300.
2/18 - $ 1700
2/19 - $ 6300
2/20 - $7050 (CareCredit that we took out to pay within six months time)
2/20 - $300
Dr. Hsueh has been really helpful with advice and medication application. Kumo is on a fentanyl patch at the moment for one hind leg, other hind leg has been shaved for IVs and fluids. He’s currently on lots of pain meds and Kumo will be doing two more follow up visits to determine his healing. Fingers-crossed there are no infections as his paw is swollen at the moment. He will be doing a 3rd follow up in 6 weeks, hopefully by that time he is fully up and running. We are advised to keep Kumo to minimal movement in a small area, with no more than 3 minutesup and hobbling around at a time. *More Updates to come this weekend on the healing process.*
