Hi friends,
If you've spent much time with Andrew Stromme, you've heard about Camp Warren and his trips to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota.
Our friend loves this camp - it's been a huge influence on his life, and as far as I can tell from his stories it's the happiest place on earth...
He attended Camp Warren as a camper for many years and then became a counselor, and is even still remembered fondly by people at Camp Warren today!

So I've created this GoFundme today because of two things:
1. Stromme is old (ok not really that old), and getting older on September 28th, and we should celebrate that. It's hard to do during COVID, but this campaign is one good way to do it. I'd also love for a boat named "Stromme" to exist in the world as a small nod to all that Stromme has contributed to that camp community.
2. Camp Warren needs help! As you can imagine, a non-profit summer camp that couldn't accept any campers this year due to COVID could use our support.
A little about Camp Warren - the camp provides opportunities to help kids from the Twin Cities get outdoors and build their integrity, self-reliance, and leadership. They include scholarships to help all kids have this opportunity to grow, and so that kids of different backgrounds can come together in the woods as a shared experience. Unfortunately, this year they were not able to host camps and had to lay off staff. Let's help keep Camp Warren open and ready for next year!

The idea:
If we can raise $1200, then Camp Warren's director says that the camp will have enough to buy the boat pictured above. They will name it "Stromme" - although perhaps he can rename it if he wants as part of his gift .
These kevlar canoes can last for decades and are what campers use to adventure through the Boundary Waters wilderness. Stromme lead one of those trips, and loves the area.
What I'm asking you to do:
1. Please contribute to this GoFundme - I'll bundle the contributions and donate directly to the camp (we can't donate to the umbrella organization or it'll get mixed in with all the other camps in the area).
I'm planning to donate $200 - what I might spend taking Stromme out to dinner and drinks on his birthday and then doubling that because it's a really good cause. However, please donate what makes sense for you and don't feel pressure to reveal the amount - I understand that everyone has been asked to donate a lot this year already.
Two more things:
2. Please keep this secret! I'd love to send him a surprise email CC-ing everyone who donated for him to wake up to on his birthday.
3. Please share with other people who care about Stromme!
If you have any questions (or would prefer to donate to me via venmo, etc), please reach out to me at colinschimmelfing - at - gmail.com
Let's make a Stromme boat happen!
