The Backstory -
Jesse Stamper is the master blacksmith and primary blacksmithing instructor at Pioneer Farms in Austin, TX. He has been teaching blacksmithing for 6 years and has personally introduced well over 500 students to the fun of the blacksmithing experience.
A year and a half ago he took on the job of Head of Artisan Activities at the farm. It's not a high paying job, but it's a labor of love and a chance to support the mission of the farm.
With 2 employees, the farm doesn't offer medical insurance, and with the high cost of insurance on the open market, it's really not an option.
The Current Situation -
About a month ago Jesse began experiencing shortness of breath and pressure in his chest. Without insurance he tried to ignore it as long as he could, hoping it was allergies or a cold. Eventually he broke down and went to urgent care hoping for a quick fix. After a few tests, the doctor called an ambulance and sent him to Dell Seton Medical Center ER with concerns about heart failure.
Well, they ran a few more tests, told him his heart was fine, and sent him home with no solution to the problem.
The symptoms continued to progress and on Feb 16th he went back to the urgent care. The doctor again sent him to Dell Seton Medical Center ER insisting that the problem was heart failure. This time they agreed and admitted him.
On Monday he was officially diagnosed with Hypertension, Diabetes, AND Congestive Heart Failure. They are still trying to determine the source of the heart issues so he will get to stay for at least a couple more nights.
So, at this point he's had 5 nights in the hospital, an ambulance ride, major tests and imaging, and lots of meds. All without insurance!
Our Goals -
The goal for this Go Fund Me is set at $10k - but expenses will realistically be 5 to 10 times that. In order for Jesse to keep doing what he's doing and supporting his students and the farm, we need to help him out as much as possible.
What you can do -
Obviously, give what you can. But also, please share this Go Fund Me campaign with everyone you can through email and social media.
