She's worth the fight

Donation protected
Our Smith family is fighting for the happiness and well being of a very precious child. (Due to legal reasons, we are unable to say her name or show her face).

Given the Smith name at birth, this child is our family. She’s a daughter, granddaughter, niece and cousin. She is almost 8 years old. She is a Smith. She always has been a Smith since day one, and she always will be. Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you unconditionally. The day this child came into our lives, we knew our purpose as her family was to love her, nurture her, protect her, and fight for her with everything we have.

Here's a little back story: This little girl has two moms. A Mommy and a Momma (Myndi). These two moms were together for 10 years and decided to have a child via artificial insemination together. One would be her biological mom and carry the child, and the other would be a mom in every other sense of the word, but none the less they were a family and raised this child together. Because the laws weren't as liberal then as they are now, Myndi was unable to legally adopt this child or sign her birth certificate. These two moms eventually split in 2015, but still co-parented very well. Even after the biological mom packed up and moved both herself and the child to Tennessee from Michigan, things were civil and co-parenting went well. Visitation was fair. There were never any issues with co-parenting until 3 months ago, when the biological mother chose to cut off ALL contact and communication between the child and our family. We are blocked from any form of communication. Myndi has tried repeatedly to talk things out, make an agreement between the two of them, and figure things out the right way, with no response. She still tries to reach out everyday and has not given up.

The issue at hand, is biologically this child wasn't a Smith by birth, and therefore our family has limited legal rights. A considerable amount of legal fees are quickly running up while advocating for her. This Smith child needs to come home…wants to come home. She loves her Smith family. And we are going to do ANYTHING we have to do, until she is back in our lives again. This has obviously been more than devestating to Myndi, my family, and we can only imagine what it's doing to the Child. No child should ever be pulled away from everything they have ever known, and torn away from the people that have loved them from day one. Especially from a parent.

This “She's worth the fight” GoFund Me page has been set up to raise money for the legal fees needed to advocate for this child. We need to be her voice. We need to be her hope. We need to give her the platform to tell the courts her story, and we need money to do this. This child deserves both parents and both families. But unfortunately, we have to fight legally to get this. We are willing to fight as long and as hard as it will take. There will be legal fees, Myndi will miss a considerable amount of work, plus travel expenses etc. and we could sure use the support.

Thank you all for your love, endless prayers, donations and support. We know our Smith child thanks you too.
