On March 9th, we thought we were taking a step toward giving our mom, Kerri Redus, her life back.

For the past six years, she has been battling seizures that slowly began to take pieces of her from us—small but heartbreaking moments, like forgetting a grandchild’s name. Eventually, it forced her into early retirement. But even then, she never stopped caring for others. That’s just who she is. No matter what she was going through, she showed up.

This procedure was supposed to help. It was routine. Safe. Something we felt hopeful about.

But she couldn’t wake up.

Instead, we were told the unthinkable—our mom had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury caused by a major brain bleed, leading to multiple strokes. In a matter of hours, everything changed.

Since then, she has endured more than we ever imagined: a medically induced coma, an ICP bolt, PEG tube, tracheostomy, and a craniectomy... international consultations and days filled with fear, uncertainty, and impossible decisions.

And yet… she’s still fighting.

Now, after weeks of waiting and hoping, she is beginning to wake up. Hearing that has been one of the most emotional moments of our lives. Her doctors are hopeful, but honestly, this recovery will not be quick or easy. The road ahead is long, and so much of what was lost will take time to rebuild.

If you know Kerri, you know the kind of person she is. She took care of kids as a Surgical Tech at OU Children's Hospital for decades. She's the one who checks in on you, who shows up when it matters, who makes you feel loved without even trying. The outpouring of messages, prayers, and memories we’ve received has been overwhelming in the best way! It’s proof of the incredible impact she’s had on so many lives.

We can’t wait for the day she gets to hear those stories!!

We also want to recognize Cindy, who has been by her side through every moment of this—loving her, supporting her, and carrying a weight no one should have to carry alone. This is not the life they planned. We should be together right now, making memories, painting Easter eggs, and sharing meals.

Instead, we are preparing for the next phase of her fight.

She will need long-term care—specialized treatment, rehabilitation, and a facility that can give her the best chance at recovery while still allowing us to be close to her. The financial burden of this level of care is overwhelming, and we simply cannot do this on our own.
