She’s 53, Dying of Cancer & Being Discharged – We Need Help

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sabrina, and I’m raising funds for my aunt Kerlyne — a woman I love dearly, who is 53 years old, terminally ill, and being kicked out of care simply because she doesn’t have good insurance.

This is the cruel reality of our healthcare system.

Just a few weeks ago, my aunt was active, hopeful, and making plans. But then her world collapsed — she was diagnosed with aggressive late-stage abdominal cancer that spread faster than any of us could have imagined. It shut down her digestive system, filled her lungs with fluid, and left her completely dependent on nurses, oxygen, and round-the-clock care.

She’s almost died twice in the hospital. One night she became unresponsive, literally drowning from fluid buildup in her own lungs. Her care team acted fast, and she pulled through — barely. But now, just as she’s recovering from that trauma, they want to discharge her.

Why? Because her insurance isn’t “good enough” to keep her there.

She’s weak, in pain, and can barely walk more than a few steps without assistance. She still needs a wheelchair, a walker, and full-time help. But she has no job anymore, no savings to her name. And now she’s being forced out of hospice care while still fighting for her life.

We’re trying to raise funds to:

Cover ongoing care or home hospice

Afford basic living expenses like food, rent & electricity

Pay for medical supplies and medications

Arrange for safe discharge and home setup

We don’t want her final days to be filled with stress, fear, or suffering. She deserves comfort. Dignity. Support. A soft place to land — not to be discarded because she’s “too poor to die peacefully.”

If you’ve ever lost someone to cancer, if you’ve ever watched a loved one suffer while the system turned its back, then you know how gut-wrenching this is.

Please donate whatever you can. Even $5 helps. And if you can’t give, please share this. Someone out there might be in a position to help — and that person could be the reason my aunt gets to spend her last chapter surrounded by love, not neglect.

Thank you for listening, for caring, and for being part of this fight with us.

With love and hope,
