We are reaching out with heavy hearts after experiencing a sudden and devastating disaster in our home. Our oil tank unexpectedly failed, causing extensive damage throughout our finished basement and destroying nearly everything there.
Since then, we have been forced to remove the oil tank, water heater, and water softener, tear up all of the flooring, and even break through the concrete foundation to ensure no oil seeped into the ground beneath our home. (It did!) The cleanup is still ongoing, with excavation crews digging deeper beneath the foundation as the DEC oversees environmental remediation. At this point, the excavation is nearing six feet deep. To say this has turned our lives upside down would be an understatement.
Unfortunately, our insurance company has denied coverage, and we are currently fighting that decision. In the meantime, we have no running water and cannot live in our home. Thankfully, we have moved to camp while this nightmare unfolds.
Once the cleanup is finally complete, we will still face the overwhelming task of rebuilding and restoring everything downstairs. The funds raised will go directly toward the removal process, environmental cleanup, concrete and foundation repairs, and replacing the essential systems needed to make our home livable again. At this point, the total cost is expected to exceed $70,000.
Asking for help is incredibly difficult for us. We have always been the people who give to others, not the ones asking for support. But right now, we are humbly turning to our community during this difficult time in our lives.
Any contribution, no matter the amount, would mean more to us than words can express. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing this would also help tremendously.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your consideration, kindness, and support.
With gratitude,
Sheryl, Celia, and Parker
