Latest update on Sherry 7/28/23
Sherry has been home for several weeks now. Like I previously stated she requires 24 hour care which has caused her husband, Adrian to be unable to work at all. After being home for this time it is evident that Sherry will need to be in a rehab facility to get the best care possible along with physical therapy. The first facility she was in was wonderful for her and she was making great progress.
Unfortunately, the facility only allowed short term stays for patients before sending them home or to another facility.
We were able to get her approved at a rehab facility that keeps patients long term, but of course things like this cost money. The insurance is only going to be covering 40% and is requiring at least 5,000 upfront before allowing her to be there. We are in the process of finding out precise numbers on what this will cost monthly out of pocket, but have been Informed that we can expect to pay around 10,000.00 a month for her to get the care that she needs.
In addition to these expenses, there are of course daily living expenses plus the cost to keep the insurance. Due to Adrian having to file FMLA, he is now responsible for the cost of having the insurance at all.
If Adrian can’t pay the premiums that they are requiring him to pay then Sherry will be left with no insurance at all. Which will create an even bigger problem.
This along with the many other circumstances has placed extreme financial stress on the Sherry and the family.
In order for Sherry to get back on her feet (no pun intended), she desperately needs to get the care than she can only get at this rehab facility.
Now, more than ever we are humbly asking that you 1 share this post with as many people as you can and 2 donate whatever you have on your heart to give. Every dollar counts even if it is just 1 dollar.
We are beyond grateful for those who have already given, sent up prayers and helped out. We pray that God blesses you as you have surely blessed us.

Thank you to all who have given to help support Sherry during this time of need. Sherry is set to be discharged from the rehabilitation facility at the end of this week but will still require 24 hour care along with nurses that will be caring for her at home. This trip home is causing her to need special medical equipment that is not covered by insurance. We know that God will supply every need but ask that you please continue to share this link. We will keep updates coming on Sherry’s caringbridge website.
At approximately 3:30pm Friday, June 9th, 2023, Sherry Lopez suffered a stroke while driving ultimately causing her to lose control of her vehicle veering off the road into a light pole in someone’s yard. Thankfully, due to her Life360 membership first responders were immediately dispatched and were at the scene within minutes. Sherry was transported by ambulance to Unity Point - Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, IL where she was assessed and then para lifted to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.
Upon arrival in Iowa City, Sherry underwent multiple surgeries, the first being an attempt of surgical stent placement in her carotid artery. This is due to a blood clot that was found in her carotid artery. Sherry also suffered an aneurysm that was caused by this clot. Unfortunately, the attempt to place the surgical stent was unsuccessful as the doctors had found the artery completely collapsed.
As a result of the stroke Sherry is experiencing paralysis of the entire left side of her body and has continued to experience this.
Sherry was monitored for 36 hours in which it was determined that her brain was swollen and continuing to swell which then caused uncontrollable tremors of the body. On Sunday, June 11th, 2023 Sherry underwent a Craniectomy procedure where they removed a large portion of the right side of her cranium to relieve pressure on the brain.
Currently, Sherry is in recovery from the procedure and will be for at least the next 6 weeks to allow the swelling to subside before the Doctors can reattach the portion of the cranium that was removed and refer her to a rehabilitation facility outside of the hospital.
Sherry, a momma to 10 of her own as well as “Nonna” to 5 grand babies, Is in need of a miracle from God/financial assistance.
Sherry’s medical condition has placed financial stress on the family. Unfortunately, she is not able to work until further notice and there are many medical expenses that have and will continue to come up as her healing journey continues. We would not normally ask this of anybody and my mother would probably have a conniption fit if she knew I had organized this fundraiser, but there is a need. A little bit from one person goes a long way. Whatever you have on your heart to give is greatly appreciated.
God Bless,
