My name is Summer Genetti and with the heaviest of hearts, I am raising money to support the family of Sherry Cahall—the mother of my best friend (Carolyn) of 41 years.
On Tuesday April 4th, Sherry went to her family physician to address pain in her leg that she suspected was cellulitis and was given oral antibiotics. On Wednesday April 5th, she walked into the Emergency Room. WALKED. On Thursday April 6th she went into kidney failure, was put on dialysis, a ventilator for breathing and by 7pm that night was being rushed in for an emergency amputation of her leg. She had contracted a form flesh eating bacteria from an unknown source and was in sepsis.
On Saturday, April 8th, Sherry went into complete organ failure and the soul wrenching decision to take her off of the ventilator was made. We lost her, peacefully not even 15 minutes later. We are shocked, it happened SO fast. We really thought she would get better.

Carolyn and her mother lived paycheck to paycheck in a very modest trailer with her brother who is completely disabled. Her mom was a cashier at Meijer for 27 years and Carolyn is a custodian for a warehouse store. Carolyn has been unable to work as she has been at the hospital with her mama and is now trying to cobble together a funeral. Any missed shifts means no money coming in. They were already barely scraping by trying to recover financially from a major car accident that her mother was in about 9 months ago. Carolyn’s modest salary and her brother’s meager disability check will not be enough to cover their rent on the trailer, in addition to their diabetes medication and supplies. Without their mom’s income, they quite literally will lose everything.

I am desperately asking for our community’s help in gathering enough funds to keep them in their home for at least a little while longer. We need time to figure out new living arrangements, money for a deposit and first month’s rent on a new apartment, and a moving truck.

Any amount helps, $5 is five dollars that they didn’t have before.

I will never ever be able to come up with the words to adequately explain the depths of my gratitude for all of love, prayers, and support you have wrapped around this family—my family, as we try to figure out our new “normal”
