Sherri's Story
Sherri Sasser was an active, innocent 17 year old young woman enjoying her late teenage years going into her senior year of high school. Sherri is adored and loved by her friends, family, members of her church, and teammates and coaches of her soccer team.
While her peers were preparing for senior year homecoming, Sherri was preparing for major surgery. Sherri was suddenly stricken with a severe gastrointestinal illness, and after 4 long months of testing, several hospital admissions requiring feeding tubes, and an Ileostomy, Sherri was finally given a grave diagnosis of Stage 3 Signet Cell Carcinoma, a very rare and very fast growing cancer that attacked her colon and rectum leaving a 7 inch mass. Upon further testing, cancer was also discovered in the lymph nodes of her abdomen. Sherri's cancer is spreading.
Sherri comes from a large supporting family, being 1 of 8 children. In order to receive the care she requires, her mother and father have found themselves traveling 3 hours away from home to a cancer treatment center at UF Shands Childrens Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.
With her mother and father at her side every moment, their careers have been put on hold leaving them in financial distress. Travel expenses, lodging expenses when needed, food expenses, thousands of dollars in co-pays, as well as other medical expenses, has cost them thousands of dollars and treatment hasn't even started. With 7 other children, a home with bills to pay and lack of income has added tremendous additional stress to a suddenly devastating diagnosis.
Additional expenses for Sherri's treatment is expected to exceed well over $30,000. With 24 hour chemotherapy and radiation treatments daily for 6 weeks with the hope of shrinking the large, fast growing tumor in order to prepare for yet another major surgery to remove the tumor, incurring additional post-surgery treatment and care expenses.
Please help us in suppoting Sherri and her family to help defer some of these additional expenses.
