Sherri Gentry Moore Fire Recovery
Donation protected
On September 16, 2022, my friend Sherri Gentry Moore's home caught fire and burned to the ground. It is a total loss, as is everything inside.
Hi, my name is Denise Collins Williams, and I am a long-time friend of Sherri. I have also experienced the pain of losing my home to a fire, and I want to help make recovering from this terrible event easier for Sherri and her family. I am very thankful that she, her daughter Sarah, Sarah's friend, Tayler, and their pets got out and are safe. And, I am grateful that they are all able, for the time being, to stay with her daughter Elizabeth at her home. But there is a long road ahead for Sherri as she now begins the journey of recovering after a house fire.
This tragedy happened so near the weekend that Sherri could not get with the insurance company to start the claims process. That begins on Monday. At this point, Sherri does not know if she will be able to rebuild on the land where the remains of her home stand or if she will have to start over in a new location. There are so many unknowns, and none of the possibilities will be settled quickly.
Currently, there are some immediate needs that Sherri and her family need help with as they begin the recovery process. Medication, which had recently been refilled, was lost to the fire. These costs are nearly $3000 a month. Also, even though they currently have a place to stay, they need some furnishings to make their living space more comfortable. There has been an outpouring of support for the family in terms of clothing donations and small household goods, but a few items still need to be purchased. Additionally, there are added automotive costs for Sherri as she now has to drive more than usual to pick up her mail, meet with insurance adjusters, travel to work, etc. It is not a quick or easy process to recover after a fire, so these added costs will continue to grow until Sherri can rebuild or relocate permanently.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated by Sherri, her family, and her friends. As decisions are made and outcomes are realized, the amount needed may change, so we will continue to update everyone on Sherri's progress. Thank you!
