Help Sheree take a step towards recovery!

Story

Hello I'm Sheree, This is a story of how I went from a sprightly, independent living life kind of woman to a person who now has limited mobility and many physical challenges. There I was on my way to join my team mates for a fun night of banter at my usual weekly Wednesday night 8 ball, when the pain in my back became so intense, my body began to show signs of weakness and stiffening on the right side. I put it down to the disc pain in my neck that I had been suffering with on and off for the past couple months. Within 36 hrs terrified and uncertain I shuffled into see my Dr, he took one look at me and immediately sent me to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, as they have the best spinal unit in South Australia. I was taken straight in to the Emergency Department, after many test they had found that I had a bulging disc pressing on my spinal cord.. I was then admitted to the spinal ward on Saturday, scheduled for major life threatening surgery Sunday morning. They told me they were going to operate on my spine by cutting through my neck and moving my throat, airway and voice box to one side. I woke Sunday morning as ready as I could be for surgery, barley able to move my legs, my arms had lost approx 80 percent strength and movement. I frantically willed my fingers to work as I texted what I thought may possibly be my last words to loved ones. I woke up in recovery clawing at the pain in my neck, the pain was immense, it felt as though the surgeon had removed my spine through my throat. Once I had stabilised I was returned to the Spinal Ward, which was home for 9 days, little did I know that this was just the start of my recovery journey. It was sobering to discovery in the coming days after the surgery I had 35 percent loss of sensation/feeling on my left side and 45 percent loss of motor skills on my right side. Reality sunk in and I was scared... I now have to retrain my legs to walk, and train the rest of my body to undertake the most menial tasks such as brushing my teeth, using a knife and fork, and many other simple tasks in general which I took for granted. The hurdles I needed to get through in hospital were intense just to get home, only for me to get home and realise that the person I was just a couple weeks ago who could face a challenge and do it all on my own wasn't able to do that this time. So here I am swallowing my pride, being raw and saying I can't do this on my own and I need the help of others. For me to progress with my rehabilitation and to reclaim as much mobility as possible for my future I am having to be vulnerable, and am asking for your assistance with the necessary equipment I require to be mobile for day to day living and to cover expenses for the many appointments with drs, rehab specialists and general day to day expenses that I unfortunately cannot afford. My goal is to be able to walk again, go dancing, take my dog for a walk, get back to playing 8ball and enjoy the precious moments in life I will get to create!! All donations to assist me to enjoy a pain free, independent and mobile future is deeply appreciated and I will be forever grateful for your generosity and care. Time is not given so use it wisely we never know the true value of our freedom so take nothing for granted. Infinite Love and Gratitude All donations are tax deductible and if you would like to donate privately please contact me. Thank you!
