Please help us give shelter to Fray

Tax deductible
THE RESCUE TRAlN is a unique, 501(c)3 non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to eliminating animal suffering and euthanasia through hands-on rescue work, dedication to spay/neuter, education, awareness and shelter intervention.

We run the East Valley Shelter Intervention Program in Los Angeles, California.  Our mission is to prevent animals from entering the East Valley Shelter by empowering pet owners with other options then surrendering their family pet.

Earlier this week we received a call from a family who asked for our help. They fell into really hard times financially and have been living on the street for about a month. They sleep in their car at night, but during the day when dad goes to work mom, the kids and their dog Fraya have to find a cool place to spend the day. Often times they go places that are inside to keep cool and have to leave the dog outside. They told us that even though they always make sure Fraya is in the shade, people give them such a hard time when they leave her outside.

They called 211 and got on a housing list and plan to bring their dog wherever they go. They’ve had her for 10 years. She’s so sweet, a big part of their family & they take very good care of her. They came to ask if we might board her and it that would be hard on a senior dog. While talking we learned that they own a camper, but were unable to keep up with the registration, smog and insurance. Because it’s illegal to part an unregistered vehicle on the street they were unable to stay in it. Dad’s employed, but making minimum wage it’s impossible for them to maintain an apartment right now. After thinking this through we felt like boarding Fraya was more of a short term solution so we decided to try to fix the root problem so the whole family would benefit. The East Valley Shelter Intervention program paid for the smog check and they were able to pay for insurance on the vehicle. We are hoping we can raise $1,144 to pay for the very overdue registration so they have a place to stay during this hard time. They have a friend who has land and hook ups so once the registration is paid they will be able to park it there. We feel this is a much better solution for the whole family rather than just putting Fraya in boarding. In the meantime they will work with LA family housing and hopefully be in a permanent place soon.

When talking to the mother she pointed out that single mothers with children are given priority for housing in Los Angeles. As a traditional family it’s been harder to find housing. Especially with a dog.

The Rescue Train is asking for your help to donate whatever you can so that we can register this camper for Fraya and her family.

Donations are tax deductible. For your records our tax ID number is: 20-1897642

On behalf of the animals and the people who love them we thank you for you for helping us keep this family together.

Always grateful,
