UPDATE: We found Dog Land! This is where the real work begins.

We are overwhelmed with joy that this first step towards a better life for all dogs on Lombok is complete! This week we put a down payment on a piece of land that will be dedicated to the dogs of Lombok (or as we like to call them, The Lomdogs).

Our mission is clear: provide shelter, food, medical care, and love to as many dogs and puppies as we can reach. Sterilization will play a key role in our success to reduce the number of dogs suffering and dumped puppies.

THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING! We have big projects ahead and need your continued support to make this a reality.

Shelter For Lombok Dogs has lost their home - again. We lost the shelter in December 2022 due to a flood. As we carried the dogs to safety, we received a generous offer for temporary land use. This unexpectedly ended this week when excavators showed up and began to tear up the land beneath our rescue dogs’ paws.

This fundraiser helps us purchase a permanent place - the dogs' land. This is the most substantial step in creating sustainable change for all of the dogs on Lombok. Will you help us achieve this vision?

Despite starvation and abuse, their spirits never cease - they forgive, they trust, and they love unconditionally. As soon as they experience love from a human every cruelty is wiped clean.

OUR STORY:

The issue is in plain view everywhere you look, you can’t unsee it. Thousands of starving dogs on the streets, puppies being dumped or killed, and stray dogs with horrible wounds and injuries that would never receive care and would likely mean death.

Due to the lack of food resources, these dogs have to fight for survival every day. The strongest and more aggressive ones will survive and the weak will be attacked, often left with large flesh wounds exposing them to infection, maggots, and disease.

Very few dogs here are sterilized but you'll be hard-pressed to find any puppies running around these streets. Because they don't make it. They are either killed or dumped away from their mother to die of starvation or worse. There is no animal rescue anywhere on the island. There are severe animal rights issues and abuse island-wide.

There is no local adoption program or local demand for dogs as pets.

As animal lovers, we could not ignore the pain, fear, and unnecessary suffering knowing we could do something.

Shelter for Lombok Dogs is the first shelter on the island that is legally registered as a foundation with the local government. Our mission is to reduce the number of street dogs and alleviate suffering from sickness and illness. Our focus is on the future and the approach is a balance of critical and urgent care, preventative measures and sustainable programs.

With help, we’ll have the power and tools to decrease the birth rate, lessen the aggression in packs and reduce the problems for villagers. It’s incredibly important to find a neutral space for these animals and people to live together in peace - to stop the killing, mute the fear, and give everyone a better life.

Taking a vision into action:

Our mission is not small - we want to make a lasting impact. With the help of generous donations and volunteers, we can make this dream come true.

To accomplish the mission and create a better environment for animals and people on Lombok we need an experienced veterinarian, a sustainable sterilization program, a rehabilitation center for dogs that have been victims of neglect and cruelty, a local and international adoption program, and educational programs for schools and villages with a focus on the young generation.

Shelter For Lombok Dogs stands for change, where it’s long overdue. With programs in place and a strategy for execution, we’re laying the groundwork for sustainability. Our team is dedicated to a bright future for these dogs, we cannot let the loss of our shelter location end our mission and this is why your help matters so much right now.

The moment I met Jourena I saw the purity in her eyes and her love and devotion to the dogs and to the Shelter. Not only has she been spending her own money to fund the efforts (food, vet, employees, security) but she also devotes all of her free time to these animals. It’s one of the most selfless acts of love I’ve ever witnessed.
