Shelly’s CML FIGHT

As many may know, Shelly has CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia).  She was diagnosed in January 2019 and has seen Dr’s in Des Moines, at Mayo in Rochester and finally at MD Anderson in Houston. Unfortunately, CML, is a rare Cancer and therefore the Dr’s in Des Moines and at Mayo have not been able to determine the right path for Shelly because the first med she was given caused major side effects and messed up her stomach.  So much so that the Dr’s were not willing to put her back on the chemo med.  After months of frustration, 3 hospital stays, stomach issues and her numbers going up, Shelly was at a her wits end.  Enter MD Anderson in Houston, TX...Shelly found out about them in her CML support group on Facebook.  They are specialists in CML.  Shelly and Jim went to MD Anderson the week of May 13th. On May 13th Shelly finally got some answers after 5 months of waiting and waiting and waiting. MD Anderson is the place with the answers along with the help and hope Shelly needs!  Right away they told her she could take her chemo med and stomach med on the same day, just 12 hours apart.  Such a relief to Shelly.

With MD Anderson being in Houston, and Shelly having to travel there multiple times in the coming months, the travel expenses are going to be high.  Plus, their insurance will only cover 70% of her treatments at MD Anderson.

So many people have been asking how they can help.... thank you for asking.  Shelly hates needing help but she is always helping everyone else and is always donating to the pet shelters to help all the pups in need.  Unfortunately, the dogs can’t return the favor so if you can help it would be greatly appreciated.  Above all else, prayers of healing are most welcomed.
