Shelli's Fight against Neuroblastoma
Donation protected
From her dad (Dan Smith)...
Shelli asked me to let everyone know what's going on with her.
She was medevaced to Seattle last Tuesday evening to get her pain under control. Her left eye was swollen before she left Fairbanks and when she arrived in Seattle, both eyes were affected. They did another CT scan the next day and it showed new spots in her head. Her head started hurting soon after the scan and the Dr's said that the tumors were causing the pain.
We had a meeting with her Dr's and they explained that they have exhausted all of the options for treatment. We knew this day was coming, but were never ready. The plan is to do one more scan of the her body and pinpoint the areas most affected by the cancer (hip, back, and head). Then they will do 5 treatments of radiation on those spots. This is only to slow down the swelling and hurt that it is causing.
This will also enable us to bring her home to be with family and we will keep her comfortable.
She wants to have visitors when she gets home to say her goodbyes. Anyone that knows Shelli knows that she has always been a strong example of what a fighter is. She is at peace about going to heaven and seeing her cancer friends that she has met while on this journey and her Grandpa, and her 3 siblings that were lost in miscarriages that have all gone on before her. She's looking forward to walking, running, swimming, and overall just being out pain.
We don't have a time line for her, but we'll enjoy everyday we have with her.

Through all of this Shelli's life quote was "Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best". Thank you for all the support everyone has given to her and our family.
Thank you to everyone who has so graciously given funds! The Smith and St. Peter family are very grateful.
