Meet Sheldon, a 6 year old Murray River turtle. He was rehomed last month by his loving family because they knew their lives were too busy to give him the care he needs. We took him in and got some extra advice about getting the correct lighting and heating and basking platforms and even though we got him all set up, his shell started rotting and peeling of his skeleton! We reached out and got turtle veterinary care and after a three day stay in hospital he came home with antibiotics, pain relief and cream to help protect his shell while it grows back.
Three weeks so far of dry docking him in our bathroom and it appears we still haven’t won the battle against the rot.
With two vet visits, medications and blood tests already adding up beyond $2400, our ability to continue financially keep up with his care is getting quite slim. I’ve learned how to inject his medication and flush his wounds and will keep up the 24/7 care he has been getting- but we will need to call in all the turtle-lovers to chip in to help us fund his care.
Can you help? Every bit buys us more time to fix him!
