Sheila's Yoga Teacher Training

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Sheila Fitzgerald. Some of you may know me as @sheilarunning on Instagram. I currently live in the Palouse region—a gorgeous patchwork quilt of agricultural landscape in the eastern edge of Washington State. I spend my days as a technician in a plant biosciences lab and greenhouse at Washington State University. My free time is spent running across hills of wheat, exploring the Snake River canyon, practicing yoga, drawing, rock climbing, and cuddling two sweet cats named Beans and Ben. Today, I’m asking for your help in funding my tuition for a 200-hour yoga teacher training at Sanctuary Yoga in Pullman, WA (link).

I first began practicing yoga at age 16, and I have become significantly more dedicated to my practice in the past 5 years. After my recent move to Pullman, WA, I started taking classes at Sanctuary Yoga, which is close by my apartment. I genuinely love the studio, and since I have been practicing there, I have been inspired by both my teachers and fellow yogis. Seeing myself slowly progress into poses I had previously never imagined possible has created a positive ripple effect in my life. I am able to visualize myself achieving new goals, both in and outside of yoga, and this has motivated me to continue returning to the mat. I am so thankful for the personal growth that I have experienced through the practice of yoga.

As a future teacher, it will be my goal to empower students with the same positivity that I have enjoyed through yoga. Some of my peers say, “I can’t even touch my toes” or, “I’ve never been flexible” as reasons not to join me for a class. I can relate to this catch-22, but I now believe that while we may feel that we need to be strong or flexible in order to do yoga, doing yoga is what will make us strong and flexible. Through my training, I want to learn to communicate this in a way that is inclusive, safe, motivating, and fun.

The cost of tuition for the 200-hour training is $3,000, but Sanctuary Yoga generously offers a work-trade option, which can cover up to half of this cost. I’m asking for $1600 to help with the cost of attendance, supplies, and books.

My 30th birthday is in less than one month. After 14 years of practice, I’m ready to learn how to best share my love of yoga with the world. If you were considering buying me a present for the occasion, please consider donating to this fund instead. It would mean the world to me, and no amount given is too small. Thank you for reading!
