Hello, everyone! My name is Stacey Borboa-Peterson. I am one of many who were fortunate enough to be a member of Sheila's Kids Korner. Sheila ran and operated Sheila's Kids Korner for 21 years. At any given time, there were 8 - 12 children (sometimes more) running around her house. Sheila had a pivotal role in shaping our lives and creating amazing human beings. She celebrated every one of our birthdays, took us on field trips, taught us how to give back to our community, and the importance of taking care of the earth. She gave her all to so many children and now it's time for us to give back to her. Sheila needs our help.

Here's what's happening:

Hi,
I'm Sheila Denault, I'm 70 years old and live in Larimore, ND. I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and started treatment at Altru Cancer Center in October 2024. My husband, Marvin, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004 and went through three years of treatment before passing in 2007. In July 2025 I had my 16th round of chemotherapy. At the end of July I had appointments at Mayo Clinic and now I am going to have surgery on Friday, August 15th. It will be a Laparoscopic Distal Pancreatectomy & Splenectomy and Gastrectomy. That's right, I'll be in Minnesota and they're going to gut me like a fish! The plan is to be there a few days before surgery and for 4-5 days after that, depending on how quickly I recover. My son, Joe, will drive me there and back and stay in Rochester while I'm there. He'll be using up a considerable number of days off, not to mention time with his family which during this time includes two birthdays.

As Stacey has told you, I did home daycare in my earlier years. Their ages now range from early twenties to fifties, and it's so nice to keep in touch with a lot of them! More recently I was working in the office at St. Stephen's Church and also keeping their website, I gave these up when I started cancer treatment. I also volunteer with the Larimore Museum and am a member of Well-Read Moms book club.

How can you help?

So many of you have already helped Sheila by offering rides to and from treatment, sharing meals with her, and checking in and spending time with her. How incredible to have such a supportive and caring community! I know that Sheila is so thankful for you all. But, as Sheila indicated, she will be heading to Mayo Clinic for surgery with her son Joe as her driver and support person. Sheila has beat breast cancer three times and is now battling pancreatic cancer. Treating cancer is costly. She will continue to pay for treatments and care (present and ongoing), but right now needs our help covering the cost of travel and lodging for both her and Joe. Sheila is one of the strongest and most selfless people I know. She has given of her time and talents for decades and to so many people. Here's our chance to give back to her. Anything helps and everything is appreciated.

Stacey
