On 29th March 2026, we will be running the Sheffield Half Marathon in aid of our friend Thomas who has received ground-breaking treatment for a brain tumour.
1 in 3 of us knows someone affected by a brain tumour, and despite being the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, brain tumour research receives only 3% of the total national spend on cancer research. For many years, survival rates haven't seen the same breakthroughs as more prevalent cancers because research is critically underfunded.
In the UK, the five-year survival rate for brain cancer is just 12.9%, compared to over 85% for breast cancer and 88% for prostate cancer. More funding is desperately needed to support the clinical trials that have provided a lifeline for our friend. The Brain Tumour Charity is the leader in its field, funding world-class research, providing support and information and raising awareness of brain tumours.
Neither of us have entered a race before, so running 21.1km (13.1 miles) is a big challenge! Every donation, no matter the amount, will be greatly appreciated and give us the energy to get up those Sheffield Hills and across the finish line.
Thank you so much for your generosity - Eleanor and Harry xx
