Sheet Harbour Radio has been "on the air" since June 15, 2016. The producers are all students at Duncan MacMillan High Scool in Sheet Harbour. We broadcast music, announcements of community interest such as road conditions and school closings, interviews with community leaders, local artists, political figures and more. We invite local groups to contribute to our programming and generate podcasts created by local businesses. Our target audience is those in the Sheet Harbour area but we have listeners in countries all over the world. We can engage these listeners because we are Internet based. We could gain even more coverage in our area if we had true FM capability. Getting that capability is one of our goals. The benefits of that are many.
We could reach listeners who don’t have access to a computer. Our population is getting older so being able to listen in without a computer would be a real step up for us.
We could generate advertising income by giving local sponsors the assurance that their ads will be heard by their potential customers.
We would have the capability of showing our producers what a “real” radio station is like and encourage them to look at careers in areas related to radio, TV, film and stage. Some of those areas are PR, advertising sales, on air and off air positions, producing, engineering, electronics, design, the choices are endless but knowing that they exist is half the battle.
Our station is an investment in the community as a whole. We try to be as inclusive as we can possibly be. We are a resource in so many ways.
Another if our goals is to engage seniors in our area to be part of our production team. We want to take advantage of their experience and knowledge and have them act as mentors to our student staff.
To do all of this we need resources. That’s why we ask you to help by making any donation you are capable of making.
