THE FRUITS5
James and Christie Fruits and their 3 children, Malachi, Mylee, and Max, are known as the Fruits5. Malachi (19) just completed his first semester at the Honors College at the University of Toledo in the Computer Science Engineering program. Mylee (19 and twin to Malachi) has Cystic Fibrosis and is a bona-fide fighter for her own health while also completing her first semester at the University of Toledo in the Early Childhood Education program. Max (15) divides his time between school and playing video games with his friends. James is self-employed, and Christie keeps the family running. The Fruits5 are a close knit family that love laughter, fun, and Jesus. They are well known for their loving energy and selfless service to others.

UNEXPECTED TURNS
On January 21, 2019,  James and Christie went to urgent care for what Christie thought was a kidney infection. Unfortunately, the doctors found a mass, and  she was admitted to the hospital on the Cancer Care floor. During an invasive surgery, they did not find what they were expecting, instead of a few masses the doctors removed over four dozen masses of varying sizes. The biopsies of the masses revealed that Christie has Uterine Carsinosarcoma, a very agressive form of cancer. Although the original surgery was a great success, cancer cells remained and for the past 23 months she has bravely fought through 31 rounds of 7 types of chemotherapy.

On  December 22, 2020 a CT scan was performed. It showed that her cancer had further metastasized (spread) and so Christie, James and her Doctor made the difficult decision that it was time to discontinue treatment and bring in Hopsice for best supportive care. Although the Doctor could not predict exactly how long Christie would have left, she suspects it will only be a matter of weeks.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
After 23 months of fighting hard and showing more bravery and tenacity than one should have to show in a lifetime, it is our turn to show our bravery and support the Fruits family during this time. The money collected for this campaign will go to help pay hospital bills, allow James to be by Christie's side, and also help to pay any additional expenses the Fruits family may encounter.

James and Christie initially resisted the idea of a GoFundMe campaign (both when Christie was first diagnosed and now), because people do so much for them to support their family anytime Mylee is hospitalized and people also give generously to their Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fundraising efforts, and because people have helped them so much these past two years during this battle with cancer.

Friends, we have reassured the Fruits that they have done so much for others and now is time to let others do for them. Please join us as we band together around this loving family to support them in their time of need. Although we can’t take away their challenge as they walk this journey, we can ease the financial burden. We ask that you reach deep to help this effort to support our dear friends.

PRAYER
Thank you for your support and prayers and encouragement to the Fruits5 during this time. Their faith in Jesus has been the cornerstone of what has carried them through the past two years along with the encoruagement, support, and prayers of so many people like you.
