Out of Bounds Productions is a student-run production company based out of Villanova University’s International Social Justice Documentary course. In October, our crew of 19 travelled to Morocco for two weeks to deepen our understanding of indigeneity in the Moroccan and global context. Specifically, of Amazigh people, the indigenous people of North Africa. The Amazigh, a word meaning “free people,” are united in a shared language fighting for their identity in post-colonial Morocco.

In October, we travelled to the city of Taroudant and the village of Tal'aynin Commune Tamaloukt in the Atlas Mountains to capture the stories of Hanan and Fadma. Hanan and Fadma are two Amazigh women fighting for the preservation of Amazigh culture. Hanan, a 19-year-old student was born in a village but currently lives in Taroudant. Fadma, an older woman, lives in a village where the ground water is depleting and clean water has become scarce, forcing most of the residents to leave. With increasing amounts of residents leaving the town, the community’s ability to freely practice Amazigh culture and traditions is in jeopardy.

Your generous donations will go towards building a sustainable well in Fadma’s village and providing a new house for Fadma’s family, as her current home remains partially destroyed by a 2023 earthquake. We are currently working with organizations in Taroudant, representatives from Tal’aynin, and engineers, the last step is raising the money.
