Hello Everyone,
I hope all is well and that you all are finding joy in watching these little ones grow so beautifully. I am writing this letter to you today because I need help. I’ve always been a strong believer in community and having a village, but not so much in asking for help in my time of need. Feeling too proud to ask and too embarrassed to let people in, I almost opted out of writing this letter today. After sitting back and really contemplating what was best for myself and my 5 babies, I realize that I have to do what is best for them and that's to ask for help.
This past Friday Chiyrah’s car was hit and totaled while parked in front of the school. A few hours prior to our car being hit I received a letter saying that I have 2 months to
vacate the home that I’ve lived in for 2 1/2 years and had planned to buy. This news is
devastating for so many reasons and has put me and my girls in a really tough situation. I don’t think there’s much I can do legally, but I want to spread the word about what the ERA is doing to us and the manner in which they are doing it. Conserving and preserving the historic lands, cultural history, the river, the animals etc. while literally having a hand in displacing 7 families at this time in the housing crisis, most of us with only 2 months to figure something out. It’s unfathomable really, and for me personally, it is very very scary. Which leads to the most important reason I am asking for help.
I am in desperate need of housing for myself and my 5 daughters: Chiyrah, Ahava, Sarah, Abigail and Hannah. We currently live in an affordable 5br 2bth house. This same size home would likely be double the rent in today’s market. If you have any housing resources or connections that we may leverage in finding affordable housing, please send them along.
In addition, I am asking for funds to help cover both the cost of moving and the cost of replacing Chiyrah’s car. On top of being a single mother with no financial support, I have exhausted all of my financial resources paying for my late brother’s funeral expenses and helping to support the 2 children he leaves behind. I have 3 jobs and have been able to manage supporting so many others, but it's been a very tough year and I won’t be able to cover the cost of moving and purchasing a new car.
Thank you all so much for your attention to this. I am truly so grateful to have a community like this to call my own.
With love,
Sheba Everett
