Lady Portia Di’Monte has been a pillar of the LGBTQIA+ community in Northern Ireland for decades. She has worked tirelessly — onstage and off — to lift people up, bring joy, and create safe spaces for everyone.

She’s worked for The Kremlin, Union Street, Maverick, and Boombox. She’s raised thousands for The Rainbow Project. She’s been an avid supporter of Belfast Pride. She’s cared and fundraised tirelessly for sick and disadvantaged people. She’s supported trans people and their families — listening, counselling, teaching makeup skills, taking them shopping so they could feel safe and seen. She’s done all of this without ever asking for anything in return.

Last weekend, Lady Portia took part in a family-friendly Drag Storytime event in Belfast. The event was met with protests, and since then she has faced a week of online abuse and targeted harassment. Now, she is taking legal action to defend herself against false accusations and to stand up for the right of our community to live, work, and create without fear.

Legal action is expensive. This fund is to help cover Lady Portia’s legal fees so she can focus on protecting herself and continuing her vital work in our community.

And in true Lady P fashion — she has promised that any money not used for legal fees will go straight back into supporting the trans and non-binary communities she has always championed.
