Uniting to get Dannyelle into Remission!

We are reaching out to share the story of Dannyelle B., a kind and strong lady who is courageously battling a rare form of blood cancer. Dannyelle has been diagnosed with Rosai-Dorfman Disease (RDD), a usually benign disorder affecting 1 in 200,000 people, as well as Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) with malignancy, which occurs in 1 out of 1 million individuals.

 In February 2024, Dannyelle underwent her second surgery in less than a year on her left thigh. Despite the surgery, two histiocytic tumors have reappeared in her thigh within just four months, and a new tumor has developed on the lower left side of her back. 

 These setbacks were discovered during one of Dannyelle’s oncology appointments. She is currently being treated at UCLA’s Bowyer Oncology Center by Dr. Schiller, the only adult oncologist at UCLA with expertise in this rare pathology. She is currently inpatient at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, where the team is working tirelessly to manage her symptoms and stabilize her condition for ongoing treatment.  

Dannyelle will undergo radiation and chemotherapy, and there are discussions about testing her bone marrow and exploring other immunological solutions to put this disease into remission. 

Her overabundant white blood cells continue to mutate, making treatment extremely challenging. Additionally, a small nodule on her left lung has grown from 3.5 cm to 4.0 cm, and new scans have revealed over a dozen micro nodules in both lungs. 

Dannyelle experiences severe pain in her left thigh, back, and abdomen, and struggles with gastrointestinal issues. She will undergo a colonoscopy and endoscopy to determine if these symptoms are related to RDD. She also suffers from chest pains due to pericardial effusion (fluid around her heart). 

 This news is devastating for Dannyelle and heartbreaking for her family and friends. Despite her own struggles, she has been a devoted caretaker for her mother and a pillar of support for many people, both personally and professionally. 

As she approaches her 50th birthday, we want to ensure she has many more years ahead.
