She has helped so many, now we can help Audry.

Audry has always loved helping people. In addition to devotion for her family, for many years Audry was an ambulance driver and EMT-I, working in the vast open country and small communities of rural San Juan County, Utah. She was there as new life began, helping a young mother deliver her baby. She also there to comfort the dying and their loved ones whenever tragedy struck. She often dealt with seemingly impossible conditions and faced challenges unknown to EMS in larger cities. Yet despite being short on resources, facing staggering distances and remote locations, she loved helping people! Now she needs our help. In the early morning hours of February 11th, 2020 Audry’s family was awakened by a loud thud. They found Audry lying on the floor. After having had a massive stroke she was taken by ambulance to the local hospital, and it was determined she needed to be flown to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, 224 miles away. She spent the next three days in the ICU. Her time there was miserable. She experienced almost constant, severe headaches, nausea and hot flashes. As the swelling in her brain subsided, she was moved to the Neuro Acute Center, where thankfully her speech and other symptoms began to slowly improve.  But she is not out of the woods yet. The stroke was significant. Some of her brain tissue has died causing Audry to lose the use of her left arm and leg.  Because of this she can do very little for herself. She cannot walk. She cannot prepare food, or go to the bathroom or bathe without help. There is hope that she will regain some use of her arm or leg again, but it will require a lot of physical therapy and only time will tell.  Her husband, Keith, and daughter, Lindsay, spend most of  their time caring for her. Lindsay has a part-time job, but has had to cut back on her hours to help at home. Keith is a self-employed HVAC contractor. His business is small. He’s the only employee. Although it’s hard to admit, they just don’t make much money. They also don’t have health insurance. Audry is not old enough to qualify for Medicare, and their application for Medicaid was denied. As you can imagine, the bills are starting to pile up and they have little ability to pay them. We’ve always been able to count on Audry to help and to do whatever needed to be done. Even after the stroke, she is doing what she can to make life easier for her family. And thankfully she’s keeping up her characteristic optimism and sense of humor! It is very difficult for Keith and Audry to ask for help, but paying their medical bills is something they can’t do alone.  And although we've set the gofundme goal quite high,  it is less than half of what they currently owe.  Please consider donating to help pay their medical bills.
