As a mother, there are no words big enough to describe the love, hope, and gratitude we feel for Emma Valdez—the beautiful soul who is giving our daughter, Adreen, the most selfless gift imaginable: the gift of life.

Emma is a talented hairstylist and the owner of Larwood Beauty, a small salon she runs from her home. We met her through my best friend Amber during the height of COVID and began seeing her for hair appointments. What started as a casual connection grew into something much deeper.

In 2023, while sharing about Adreen’s need for a kidney transplant, Emma—so calmly and so genuinely—said, “She can have mine.” We smiled, touched by her heart, but never imagined what would come next.

One week before Christmas, Emma called and said, “I just wanted to give you peace of mind... I’m a 100% match for Adreen and I’ve been approved as her donor.” The tears rolled down my face. I was speechless. How can someone offer part of themselves so freely? Like it was nothing—yet it meant everything.

Emma is giving our daughter a second chance at life. Her act of love has forever changed our family.

Because Emma is self-employed, she doesn’t receive paid medical leave or unemployment. As she steps away from work to recover from this life-saving surgery, we want to surround her with the same love and support she’s shown us.
