My best friend, Leslie Santos, is one of the strongest, kindest people I know. She’s a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a compassionate nurse who has spent her career caring for others in their most vulnerable moments.

When Hurricane Helene hit, Leslie didn’t hesitate to step up. She showed incredible strength, supporting her neighbors and community through fear, uncertainty, and loss. She gave her time, her care, and her heart when others needed it most.

Now, unexpectedly, she finds herself in need of that same love and support.

She love her stars. Last Thursday night, while photographing the Milky Way—Leslie fell from a step ladder. The fall shattered her left heel and broke her wrist. She’s already had surgery to place a plate in her wrist, and she’s awaiting word on whether her heel will also require surgery.

For the next 6–8 weeks, she cannot walk, drive, or return to the nursing job she loves. That means not only is she facing physical pain and emotional challenges, but also the stress of lost income and mounting medical and household expenses.
