I survived war. I survived years in a refugee camp.

Now, I am fighting cancer and I cannot do it alone!

I never imagined that after escaping bombs, displacement, and a decade of life in refugee camps, I would one day be begging for help to stay alive. But cancer has left me with no other choice.

My name is Mary Helan, and I am a Sri Lankan refugee.

During the civil war in Sri Lanka, my family and I were forced to flee our home to escape violence and persecution. We lost everything we owned and spent over ten years living in refugee camps, where survival itself was a daily struggle. Access to proper healthcare, safety, and stability was almost impossible.

After years of displacement and hardship, I tried to rebuild my life with hope and resilience. But recently, I received devastating news I have been diagnosed with cancer.

Medical tests confirmed that I have Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of the parotid (salivary) gland, an intermediate-grade cancer with nerve involvement. I have already undergone surgery to remove the tumour, but doctors have advised that I need ongoing treatment, monitoring, and follow-up care to prevent recurrence and protect my life.

As a refugee, I do not have financial security or savings. The cost of cancer treatment, medications, hospital visits, scans, and recovery care is far beyond what I can afford. I am struggling not only with my health, but also with fear, fear of not being able to continue treatment due to lack of money.

I am asking for your support to help me to continue cancer treatment and medical follow-up, Pay for hospital bills, medications, and diagnostic tests and cover basic living expenses while I recover.

Every donation, no matter how small, gives me hope. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing my story so it can reach someone who can help.

I escaped war to survive. I survived refugee camps with strength and faith.

Now, I am fighting for my life and I am asking for your compassion.

Thank you for standing with me during this fight.
