Shawn's Recovery: A Family in Need
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Trina Brown, and I am raising money to help Shawn Shaffer pay for his living expenses while he fights to recover from RSV and Sepsis. Recovery has been further complicated by his arm being directly infected. He was admitted to the emergency room and immediately prepped for surgery on the arm where the Sepsis escalated. The doctors had to cut out parts of his arm, including some bone, to defend against the Sepsis. During surgery, the doctors had to perform CPR (chest compressions).
After surgery, Shawn was in the hospital for a couple of weeks. He has missed most of January and February. While Shawn is employed, he cannot work.
The medicine they have prescribed makes him sick to his stomach, and he is throwing up. Due to the invasive surgery on his arm, he cannot use his arm. He has been in bed with a PICC line and has had almost no movement or function. They also have him on steroids, which complicates his ability to function.
He has been out of work off and on since New Year’s Eve. He has also been in the emergency room off and on since New Year’s Eve.
He has additionally seen an infectious disease doctor, hand surgeon, PCP, and IV doctor in the last 2 days. It’s been overwhelming.
The rent and utility bills are piling up, and he needs food for the kids.
He has 5 children - Ragan, 17; Violette, 11; Isabella, 7; Ares, 5; Ivy, 3 months.
He is the head of the household, and his children depend on him. His wife, Sophia, is transporting Shawn to the hospital and helping care for the kids and Shawn.
This is a very stressful situation for this family. The children have asked Shawn if he is going to die.
I am raising this money to help Shawn relieve the stress with the bills piling up, and hopefully, it will allow him to focus on healing.
Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
