Shawn's Path to Recovery from a Stroke
Shawn is a 42 year old husband, father, son, brother and Local 45 Carpenter.
On Thursday, June 3rd, Shawn started to feel as if he had a sinus infection and headache while he was at work. It isn't uncommon to develop sinus infections when your normal day is working on a construction site, even while wearing all the necessary PPE. He completed the workday and commuted home to get some rest. On Friday, he got up like usual still feeling a "sinus headache" and went to the LIRR to commute into work.
Along his normal trek, Shawn comes across many of the same people that work in or around his commute, fellow commuters, friends and coworkers. Along his commute, a few had commented that he did not look right. Upon arriving at the work site, his Local 45 Brothers saw how he looked and immediately jumped to action. Those of you that offered to help - Please know that you saved his life!
Shawn has suffered a stroke and is now relearning how to see, swallow, balance and walk again. The doctors and staff at Presbyterian Downtown have all been spectacular and he is getting ready for the next leg of his journey at a rehabilitation center near home and his family. The recovery process will be an arduous journey with no known timeline.
We are asking for monetary donations to help keep his household on level ground while Shawn focuses on regaining his balance and takes all the necessary steps to recover as quickly as possible. Your generous donations will be used to help cover unforeseen expenses related to his stroke, uncovered treatment and transportation, and household expenses that Shawn would normally pay for with his wages. Any funds that are donated beyond Shawn's needs will be paid forward to someone else in need or donated to Stroke Research.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
