Hello family, friends and kind supporters,
I am writing with a humbled heart to share with you something personal and to ask for your support during this difficult time.
It all started a little over a month ago as I was helping my daughter move and noticed I was experiencing some strange shortness of breath and wheezing. Initially, I brushed it off, but I quickly realized it was something I needed to get checked out. After going through a series of tests and exams with several doctors, I found out that my worst fear had come to life: I had stage three lung cancer.
It is hard to put into words the feelings and thoughts I had when I heard this diagnosis. I was in shock, scared, frightened, afraid and in complete disbelief.
The great news is that my God is one that moves mountains, and I know for certain I can and will overcome this obstacle. As well as that, I have an incredible medical team of pulmonologists, oncologists, and radiologists working with me to ensure I receive the best care possible.
By God’s grace, the cancer is contained in my left lung and has not traveled anywhere else. My doctors truly believe that because we caught it when we did, the chemo and radiation will be effective. My treatment begins December 22nd and will continue for six weeks. We’re praying and believing this plan will shrink the tumor and allow me to return to a long, healthy, cancer free life!
Sharing this news has been incredibly hard. At first, I felt embarrassed, scared, and very alone. But the continuous love from my family, friends, clients, and coworkers has reminded me that I am far from alone. Your support, your messages, and your prayers have lifted me up in ways more than you know. I feel blessed beyond words.
I do serve a mighty God who has me in the palm of his hand. I know he is giving me strength, and I’ve felt it through every single person who has reached out with love and encouragement.
As I begin this journey, I’ll be facing a lot of medical expenses and time away from work so I can focus on healing. To help with these costs and to make sure I can stay in my home during treatment, I’ve started this GoFundMe. Any support—whether it’s a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing this—means more than you know. It will help cover daily living expenses, medical bills, medications, appointments, and the many unexpected things that come with a diagnosis like this.
I’m a mother, a grandmother, and a small business owner, I have so much to live for. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read this, and for being part of my support system and team. Your kindness brings me hope and courage. I truly believe that brighter days are ahead.
With genuine gratitude,
Shawn O’Neal
