Hi everyone,
As you may have heard, my dad Shawn Lowery (who many of you know as Mr. Sawbladehead) was diagnosed with stage 4 thyroid cancer a couple months ago. Since his initial diagnosis, the cancer spread to his lymph nodes, and a spot was detected in one of his lungs.
September 8th Shawn underwent a full neck dissection surgery at Moffitt cancer center, during which they removed his thyroid and about 100 lymph nodes.
Since his surgery, Shawn has not been able to take on any major projects for his welding business, Sawbladehead Designs, or drum. This is because the large incision cut through important muscles in his neck and shoulders, causing limited mobility. He is healing well, but the doctors are advising him not to push himself and to undergo physical therapy in order to regain full use of his arms and to not have any permanent damage. He has been able to pick up a few gigs running sound, but for the most part this surgery has resulted in an almost complete loss of income.
While my parents do have health insurance and have met their deductible for the year, with Shawn being out of work the non medical bills are adding up. And once his neck has healed enough, Shawn must begin radiation treatments to eradicate the cancer that spread to his lung. While undergoing radiation he will not be able to work at all since his body will be giving off radiation that could contaminate who and what he would come into contact with. So Shawn will essentially be out of work for at least 4-6 months.
This is why I am humbly asking for your help. I do not make enough to help support my parents and make up this loss of income on my own. Over the years, I have watched Shawn and my mother be charitable members of the community, and they have supported many local fundraisers. I am asking you to please return the favor.
I know not everyone can afford to give money right now, and I get that. Please at least take the time to share. Every little bit counts.
For ease of use my mom Dena Lowery will have access to the GoFundMe, since she is usually the one who manages these expenses for my parents.
