In Loving Memory of Shawnise Houston

To Family, Friends, Church Members, and Supporters,

We are sad to announce the passing of our family member, Shawnise Houston. Shawnise was the life of the party at family events. She loved to laugh and joke, and she loved children.

Shawnise suffered from a weak heart, and passed away early morning on June 12, 2025 - her mother’s birthday, one day before her own birthday. The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Shawnise was the type of person who would quickly help others even in her own struggles. She had a vision to become a counselor to help women overcome life’s obstacles, including relationship and mental health issues, as a way to help women connect with their purpose. Her ultimate goal, as she talked about often in the last few years with her family, was to found her own nonprofit organization offering a range of services to support women’s mental and emotional health. She was a life-long member of Bethel C.M.E. Church, where she recently began singing in the choir. Due to her long battle with pre-existing health conditions, she was not able to secure affordable life insurance.

Shawnise leaves behind one daughter, Jasmyne Houston-Carter, and four grandchildren. They and the rest of her family deeply desire to properly put their loved one to rest with love and care.

Many family, friends, and church members are pulling together to give our loved one a proper transition.
