SHAWNELLE'S BATTLE AGAINST LUPUS

Towards the end of summer shortly after graduating from the Antigua State College, Shawnelle started experiencing unexplainable symptoms such as body and joint pain, fatigue, fever and anemia. She was hospitalised on the small island of Antigua where she lives. For several weeks, the doctors there were unable to diagnose her, forcing her family to seek other medical opinions on the french island of Guadeloupe. It has been a tough journey for the 19 year old. She was placed in a medically induced coma and underwent many tests. After weeks of suffering, she was finally diagnosed with Lupus.

Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damange any part of the body (skin, joints and/or organs inside the body).

Shawnelle continues to fight this disease. She has lost all her hair,  alot of weight and has to learn to walk again.

Shawnelle does not have medical insurance and has incurred quite a large sum of Medical Bills. The first of her many medical bills total €169,492.20. There is no known cure for Lupus. She has to endure a lifetime of treatment to manage the symtoms.

Shawnelle is the daughter of Shawn and Sara and Granddauther of Regina and Gifford Walsh (Deceased).
