Shawnice Sekscinski (lovingly known as Shawnee) is 27 years old and has been one of my best friends since Kindergarten. On December 26th, Shawnee was in a head-on collision. She sustained numerous fractures and breaks to her body (including but not limited to her orbital sockets, neck, jaw, foot, femur, hip, and clavicle), blunt force trauma to her head, and internal bleeding. Shawnee is currently being treated in the ICU. She has shown signs of responsiveness and her doctors are feeling optimistic about her progress thus far. However, Shawnee’s recovery is going to be extensive and will have to be taken one step at a time. Due to the extensive injuries Shawnee has sustained, she is going to have a long term hospital stay. She will need comprehensive medical attention even after her hospitalization, as she will also need an extended stay with a rehabilitation facility to rebuild her strength. With medical care, especially long term, comes extensive costs. Shawnee will need financial support for medical bills, the recovery process, rehabilitation services, and her daily care. Any amount given will be greatly appreciated as she faces this long journey to recovery. Shawnee is a loving, kind person and lights up any room she enters.
