Shawn's Lyme Disease Treatment

Donation protected
BACKGROUND

Anyone who knows Shawn Carson knows how much he loves to be active--helping others, getting his hands dirty, playing with his family, running marathons.... In 2012, when Shawn began to experience symptoms of what since has been diagnosed as chronic Lyme disease, he was forced to let go of many of these life-giving activities. Since then, Shawn has exhausted every avenue available for diagnosis and treatment, and he has suffered extreme, often relentless physical pain along the way. The disease has touched each area of his life, including Amy, Mahir and Matias who long to have their vibrant husband and father back, and it has been painful for Shawn's other family members, friends and colleagues to watch their loved one suffer so acutely.

If you know Shawn and this surprises you--perhaps you didn't know he was sick--it's because he's good at putting on a happy face. Even when in pain himself, Shawn is always quick to sacrifice to help to a friend or stranger, but asking for help isn't easy for him. Shawn's condition has reached a critical point. If you have been blessed by his care and generosity in the past, I hope you will consider linking arms with him now, by helping fund his treatment.

ABOUT LYME DISEASE

It is quite difficult to condense the amount of information "out there" on the Lyme epidemic and the treatment--or lack thereof--done in recent years. A documentary called Under Our Skin (click here to watch the trailer) follows several individuals and their pursuits of diagnosis and treatment that could be the Carsons' story as well.

THE URGENT NEED FOR TREATMENT

Shawn recently came under the care of Sunridge Medical, a very highly respected naturopathic practice. They have customized a treatment plan for Shawn that involves various injections and IVs. It is expected to last a few months and rid his body of the Lyme bacteria. If Shawn doesn't receive this treatment, the symptoms will persist, and the disease is likely to develop into a more serious neurological disorder.

Because Sunridge Medical doesn't take insurance, this fundraising campaign is essentially a lifeline for Shawn.

Shawn is undergoing these treatments now, really because he can't afford not to, so the need for financial support is urgent. Thank you so much for considering supporting the Carson family in this practical way!
