Hi there,
My name is Lisa and I'm here to ask for your support for my cousin, Shawna. First and foremost thank you for taking the time to just read her story, and to lift her up in prayers and thoughts as she faces this difficult journey.
Shawna began experiencing pain in her abdomen last year. But since she was pregnant at the time her doctors just considered it typical pain from pregnancy. After Shawna gave birth to her beautiful baby girl, Stella, this past October of 2023 the pain was still there and getting worse. When she was finally able to get back into the doctors is when they discovered the tumor. This past Friday, Feb. 2, 2024 a biopsy was performed and it was confirmed that Shawna is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The pain she was experiencing is from the size of the tumor, as it is so large that it is invading the artery of the Spleen and cutting off blood flow. Her surgeon does think they will have to take her Spleen out during the removal of the tumor. Surgeon did mention chemo but we will know more in the next couple days.
Shawna wanted me to first ask for your prayers, she is determined to beat this so she can be there for her newborn baby and the rest of her family. Shawna is the most amazing wife to her husband, David, and the most loving, caring mom to their other children, Hannah, Lukas, and Scarlett. Shawna and David are the most giving people I'm blessed to call family. It was I that had to convince them to even allow me to make this for them. They both turned me down at first saying there was others who need it more and that they would figure it out because that's the type of hardworking people they are. But once the call came that it was actually cancer they finally caved as they realized they cannot and should not be facing this alone. I cannot express enough how deserving this family is for any donation you can give. Both Shawna and David are hardworking, people having held down multiple jobs at one time to make sure they can provide for their family. Please give what you can so that Shawna can focus fully on her fight while still trying to care for a newborn and be with her family. They live in the Midland area of Michigan and will be driving regularly to Ann Arbor for the U of M hospital.
Your donation will be helping with medical bills and other expenses that will arise from all the traveling and day to day expenses of trying to care for their four amazing children. Please give what you can, share if you can, and most importantly pray for the healing of Shawna's cancer. She deserves to watch her children grow old and her children deserve to have her here.
Again thank you so much for anything that you can give, we truly appreciate you!
