On Friday, April 24th at 10:30pm our sister Shawna Dotson was hit by a car while at work as a Construction Safety Flagger at Metropolitan Transit System. She was rushed to UCSD at Hillcrest with 5 broken ribs, a broken wrist, injuries to her head and back, and deep lacerations to her legs. Doctors are still determining the full extent of her injuries and she is getting treatment for head and brain injuries with a long road ahead before she is able to walk on her own. She will be out of work for the foreseeable future and need support, she also lives on a second floor apartment and will need mobility assistance once she is able to leave the hospital. That is why we are launching this GoFundMe efforts to help our sister in her time of need.

Shawna is also a proud member of IBEW Local 465, a shop steward and an elected member of our Union's Executive Board where she helps represent our 3,000 members across San Diego and Imperial Valley. We are hoping that our IBEW siblings can help Sister Dotson In her time of need by donating and sharing this GoFundMe.

Shawna is selfless, caring and kind in all her roles both as a worker and a worker advocate at IBEW 465.

She is always lifting up her fellow co-workers and is a resource for assistance and support.

She has helped organize dozens of new members, she has served on our negotiation committee where she has helped deliver higher wages and more full time opportunities for her coworkers.

Our sister Shawna is a friend, a colleague and a ray of sunshine at San Diego Trolley. All of us are hoping to support her in her time of need.
