Shawn’s apartment building went up in flames early this morning, November 1, 2021. He woke up around 4:40am with a terrible taste in his mouth, put on his glasses and realized he couldn’t see anything in front of him. After a second or two of confusion, in all of his graceful glory, scrambled out of bed and promptly fell on the floor. His downstairs neighbor said the thud of the fall is what woke him up, and told me that Shawn saved his life. We’re all thankful for clumsiness today.
Shawn got up and out of his apartment and started banging on all of his neighbor’s doors to wake them. An upstairs neighbor who had already gotten out of the building came back in to tell him that he needed to get out now - because things were getting bad. A lot more happened after that, but from what I know, Shawn watched from outside as his home went up in flames and his neighbors were wheeled away on stretchers.
The building seems to be a total loss, with everything burnt crispy or destroyed with water damage. All of his instruments (including the 25+ year old Fender Strat), the massive record collection, array of vintage findings, unique and treasured clothing, knick knacks from around the world and all of his important documents are gone or destroyed. A lifetime spent collecting disappeared within a matter of hours.
Thankfully Shawn walked away unscathed, but with only the clothes he slept in and phone. We are so grateful to Norfolk Fire for being able to find his keys and wallet after the situation was under control. As of now, It’s not safe for anyone to go in the building, and it may never be.
Please help me in getting Shawn back on the right foot. I’m sure he will want to kill me for this, but come what may. Our boy needs our help right now. Thank you for reading.
