My name is John Ferch, and I serve as Director of Oral Bible Translation at Spoken Worldwide. We are a faith-supported mission organization focused on bringing God's Word to unreached oral people groups around the world. I would like to invite you to make a special donation to the family of my friends and fellow missionaries, Shawn and Angela Mayle, to help them rid their home of toxic mold that threatens their health and their ministry.
The Mayle family came to Spoken nearly a year ago when Angie joined our team as an Oral Bible Translation Consultant-Trainer. (Prior to joining Spoken, Shawn and Angie served for five years as missionaries in Madagascar.) At Spoken, Angie mentors teams of indigenous Oral Bible Translators as they translate and record the Bible in audio format for their own local communities. Angie has been working alongside me with a team in Tanzania for the past year and recently began consulting with a new team in the Philippines.
Around the same time that Angie joined our staff, she began to suffer from increasingly severe migraine headaches. These headaches drain her energy and hinder her focus, especially in the rigorous, detail-oriented work of listening to translations of the Bible and checking them against published Scripture to ensure their accuracy. During the height of summer, she was hospitalized and forced to take several days away from the work. Nevertheless, Angie has persevered with a positive attitude that always points me back to the sufficiency of Christ. She has never complained and has taught us all a lot about perseverance through hardship.
Most of the work is completed from Angie's home office via Zoom meetings. However, twice during the past year, Angie had opportunities to travel to the mission field for extended periods. Intriguingly, Angie experienced minimal migraines during both of these trips. This led her to suspect an environmental cause for her condition.
Extensive blood testing in November revealed a concerning presence of mold in her blood. Professional testing of the Mayle home found the same type of mold in their attic and HVAC system. Over the same period, other members of the family have begun experiencing symptoms that may also trace back to the mold.
A professional remediation company has provided an estimate and is able to do the necessary work to remove the mold, but the cost is a challenge for this family, which has already made major financial sacrifices for the work of the ministry. Would you join me in supporting Shawn and Angie financially to help them with this expense, providing them with a clean and healthy environment in which to raise their family and conduct their ministry?
We do not presume to know the ins and outs of the spiritual dimension of the work to which we are called. Nevertheless, the timing of this development seems squarely aimed at sidelining the Mayle family from their crucial work of providing God's Word for communities that need it the most. We know that our spiritual enemy is called "the prince of the power of the air" (Ephesians 2:2). Please join me in making a donation that will provide the Mayle family with clean air from which to carry out their ministry.
