Shavon’s Fight

“You don't have a family history, so make an appointment to come back in six months. We will monitor it and re-evaluate." Those words danced happily through my sisters' head. Six months later, different words were spoken. They didn't dance, they echoed like  brass cymbals being thrashed over and over again. The life as she knew it would change forever!

"You have breast cancer." All Shavon said was, "How am I going to tell my children that mommy has cancer?" So many questions flooded her mind but all she could do is burst into tears. Mommy held her, I held her but it wasn't enough in that moment. Next came a flood of  doctors appointments, scans, tests and evaluations. As we sat in the doctors office with my family the doctor said, "Shavon, you have triple negative breast cancer." We later found out that it metastasized to her liver. She joked (not really), "Leave it to me to go big or go home (smh)."

She began treatment at the Cancer Center Treatment Centers of America. God opened so many doors and the support grew but everyday she was tasked to mask the cancer so that my niece and nephew could adjust, stay positive and look in the mirror and see someone she didn't recognize. It takes so much work for the pictures everyone sees. Some days are better than others. Her faith, family and the smiles of the children keep her going. The rigorous treatment regimen leaves her fatigued but we are hopeful...we are trusting God! If the  tumors go down enough at the end of this aggressive treatment, known as the Red Devil, she could be scheduled for an appointment with the liver and breast surgeon.

When I asked my Sissy, "What does a day look like in your shoes? She said, "I fight everyday! I'm blessed everyday! Life continues to happen everyday! I am learning there are levels that I did not anticipate with fiances, nutrition, co-pays, holistic care and the list goes on. It's just too much sometimes."

This GoFund Me campaign will assist with the unexpected, unknown, and what’s to come. If you could support Shavon's Fight by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, we would greatly appreciate it. Please know that even $5 helps me get closer to the goal.  Our family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts! ❤️
